Parkes is within the Canberra Parliamentary triangle and is home to the National Rose Garden. Parkes can be seen from the front steps of Parliament House looking towards the War Memorial. In addition to some large park areas, there are a number of large institutions such as the National Library & High Court. Named after one of the founding fathers of the Australian Federation, Sir Henry Parkes, only a couple of dozen people live in this suburb on a permanent basis.
